We're expanding! Stay tuned for powerful birth support.

Prenatal Visit

Gentle support before the baby arrives.

The transition into parenthood can be scary and overwhelming — but above all, exciting. Before your newborn arrives, we can provide you with resources, emotional support and help you understand all your options for a birth plan that's right for you. Lets get together and talk about how to prepare your body, mind and partners for great breastfeeding success. We will review how to "make milk", and focus on the first 24-72hrs with baby.

Our services include chestfeeding education, the organization for parenting classes or massage appointments and facilitate open communication between you and your healthcare provider. We can support with going back to work, exclusive pumping, establishing supply and ensure you know how to latch your baby comfortably.

More importantly, we're here to listen without judgment or criticism. We can talk through how you're feeling in anticipation of your birth and address fears and concerns together. During these visits many individuals want to discuss anxieties and misconceptions they may have around feeding.  We can talk about past breast trauma or surgeries and can even explore concerns you have about your nipple shape (including inverted nipples).

All parents need accurate information and someone to provide support and encouragement. If you're looking for prenatal lactation consultation, our visits are an excellent option — as we come to you for your comfort and convenience.

Postpartum Services

Emotional and physical support after childbirth.

The first few days and weeks after childbirth are significant for both parents and newborns. If you're looking for postpartum support near you, we provide existing and new parents with guidance for the challenges that may arise during this time.

Lack of sleep and a wavering routine can become overwhelming to any parents. This is perfectly normal in this stage of your new life together with your newborn. We can talk through anxieties and set realistic expectations that help you feel confident and prepared as a parent.

The structure of our visits depend on your goals. If assessing breastfeeding is the priority, we ask parents to try and stagger feeds so the little one is hungry when we arrive. We ensure a comfortable latch, identify good milk transfer, support low supply and assess baby's oral anatomy and rule out tension or restrictions. Feedback is given verbally during the visit, as well as in a personalized document that is emailed to you following the visit. This is helpful because parents can then share this document with her doctor or midwife at later appointments.

If your visit includes a pumping assessment, your IBCLC will discuss all aspects of set-up, use, sizing, and care of pumping pieces, and will work with you to develop a plan during the visit. It can be extremely beneficial for the feeding parent to have a support person to be involved during the visit. They can help absorb information and bring new perspectives to the experience.

With our help, you can feel confident stepping into your new chapter in life, with someone in your corner to guide you through the first tumultuous weeks.

Our team of lactation consultants in Burnaby and surrounding Vancouver area can ease the learning curve of chestfeeding for both you and your newborn baby.

Lactation Consultant

Individualized support to nourish your baby.

Chestfeeding can be a challenge for both parents and babies. Our team of international board-certified lactation consultants (IBCLC), can provide you with the personalized assistance you need to make you successful at feeding.

Not all chestfeeding consultants near you will offer the same level of support as a certified IBCLC. The best time to connect with a breastfeeding lactation consultant is when you're expecting, as we can help educate you about options in regards to feeding your baby, so you’re informed and feel confident in advocating for yourself and your child.

Learn how to hold your baby, how to pump milk, and tips for latching that will help you feel more confident about chestfeeding when your newborn arrives.

If you're an adoptive or non-birthing parent who wishes to chest feed, we have a lot of experience helping families produce milk for their babies. No matter what your situation, we'll work directly with you to develop a personalized solution. For  in-home lactation consultant services, Simply Nourish can help.
