Postpartum Doula Services

As you transition into life with a newborn, the unknown can be scary, overwhelming and above all, exciting. Whether you’re an existing parent or a new parent, your labouring process and your baby are a completely unique experience. Simply Nourish works with parents and their newborns to make the transition into parenthood as streamlined and comfortable as possible.

If you are looking for a postpartum doula near you, you’ve come to the right place. As an international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), I am educated, resourceful and experienced in infant feeding.

My Services Include:

Prenatal Visits

Before the birth of your newborn, I provide the right knowledge and expertise to prepare you for parenthood. This includes helping to educate you on breastfeeding, as well as organizing preparation classes for the most important parts of feeding, nurturing and child-rearing.

Postpartum Services

The first few days and weeks after childbirth are significant for both parents and newborns. As a postpartum doula, I provide the necessary support for the challenges that may arise during this time.

By seeking the appropriate emotional and physical support postpartum, you can help address and ease some of the issues during the early days with your newborn. For example, lack of sleep and a wavering routine can become overwhelming to parents. A postpartum doula can provide you with useful strategies, advice and support to help navigate these kinds of issues to improve and better your postpartum situation.

As an experienced postpartum doula, I have a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience and insight into the early period of child care and parenthood. During this time, families need adequate support both physically and emotionally. This is where the services of a doula can help.

I provide the necessary support, education and training to assist you and your newborn. Feel confident knowing that you have somebody in your corner to help gently guide you.

As a postpartum doula and lactation expert, I can ease the learning curve of breastfeeding for both you and your newborn.

My Postpartum Support Includes:

  • Support for your feeding goals
  • Unbiased education and knowledge
  • Care for your newborn
  • A calming and nurturing support system
  • Service based on an hourly rate (contact me for further information)

Doula FAQ’s

What is the difference between a postpartum doula and a midwife?

In many ways, the tasks and education between a postpartum doula and a midwife overlap. However, there are crucial differences between the two professionals.

A postpartum doula provides a wide range of services, which can include, but are not limited to, providing moral and emotional support, assistance with baby care (i.e. breastfeeding, health sleep habits, changing diapers), assistance with tasks such as making lists or doing small errands, providing resources for infant development, assistance and guidance for breastfeeding as well as specialized assistance for medical care where applicable. While a midwife has more of a medical role, a doula provides the comfort and support you need in your early days with your newborn to help you feel at ease, decrease anxiety and help you achieve a good quality of life postpartum.

As your postpartum doula, I provide support and compassion to parents. I have a deep understanding and commitment to providing the pertinent knowledge and assistance in the early days after childbirth to help support and promote your physical, emotional and mental well-being.

How Can a Lactation Consultant Help You?

As an international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), I want you to feel successful. This means I get to bring you all the tools to make decisions for you and your family in regards to how you feed your baby.

Did you know that lactation consultants are not just helpful during newborn feeding challenges? I can help you with nursing your toddler, all things related to feedings and the introduction of solid foods! Let me help fill the void that parents often find in gaining educated and supportive care in regards to breastfeeding.

Are you an adoptive or non-birthing parent who wishes to chest feed/breastfeed? I have a lot of experience inducing lactation and helping families produce milk for their children!

What are some things you may learn by working with me?

Professional consultants offer a broad range of services, which include teaching a new parent how to position their baby on the breast to giving them tips on how to increase their milk supply. Or, do you have signs of mastitis? I can help manage that as well and collaborate with your midwife/family physician to ensure you are getting the treatment you require! I can also devise special feeding plans for premature infants, multiples or infants with serious medical conditions (such as cleft palate or cardiac issues). Even months into breast-feeding, parents can find it helpful to talk to me about finding a good pump or ensuring the baby is gaining well after once parents have returned to work.

Sometimes the most helpful commodity a lactation consultant can offer is simple reassurance and encouragement that you are enough for your family. I can also provide weight checks to ensure your baby is gaining well, in addition to reviewing everything you are already doing that has proven to be valuable for your baby.

Infant feeding can go more smoothly with adequate support. With me working with your family as an experienced IBCLC, the most complex circumstance can be broken down into tangible solutions.

It goes without saying that breastfeeding gives your baby the best possible start in life -- but breastfeeding doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Every drop counts! It’s so much more than hand-holding -- but that certainly is a large part of it. My main goal is to meet clients where they’re at, listen to their stories and then help them feel unstoppable as a family unit.

How will you work with my partner or spouse?

Your partner will provide unprecedented support throughout the breastfeeding and initial days of the child-rearing process. We know that the experience can be overwhelming for them as well! That’s why I provide support for both you and your partner, as well as help your partner coach you throughout the first days of parenthood.

Throughout the prenatal visits, I build a relationship with both you and your partner so that both of you feel attended to, supported and comfortable. As we work together postpartum, we will devise a plan that both you and your partner are comfortable with.
